How to Convert Market Cap to Price

A coin's price equals its market cap divided by its circulating supply. A token with 100 million coins in circulation and a $1 billion market cap trades at $10. Flip it around and market cap equals price × circulating supply.

Worked Examples

  • 100,000,000 coins at a $1B market cap → $10 per coin
  • 1,000,000,000 coins at a $10B market cap → $10 per coin
  • 21,000,000 coins at a $2T market cap → ~$95,238 per coin
  • 589 trillion coins at a $10B market cap → ~$0.000017 per coin

The last row shows why meme coins with hundreds of trillions of tokens rarely reach $1: even a $10B valuation leaves each coin worth a fraction of a cent. Model those scenarios with the meme coin profit calculator.

Circulating vs Total vs Max Supply

  • Circulating supply – coins that can be traded today. Exchanges such as CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko use this for market cap.
  • Total supply – circulating coins plus locked or vested tokens that already exist.
  • Max supply – the hard cap that will ever exist (21M for Bitcoin; some tokens have none).

Using max supply instead gives the fully diluted valuation (FDV). If a token's FDV is much higher than its market cap, future unlocks can push the price down even if the market cap holds steady.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a crypto's price from its market cap?

Divide the market cap by the circulating supply. $5B ÷ 500M coins = $10 per coin.

What price would a coin reach at a $1 billion market cap?

$1,000,000,000 ÷ circulating supply. Enter the supply above and set the target market cap to 1,000,000,000.

Does a higher price mean a bigger market cap?

No. A $0.50 coin with 100B coins ($50B cap) is far larger than a $500 coin with 1M coins ($500M cap). Compare market caps, not prices.

What should I do with the result?

Use it to sanity-check price targets, then plan the trade with the crypto profit calculator, size it with the position size calculator, or project long-term growth with the crypto investment calculator.
